March; 2010
The SREP subcommittee meeting has been conducted in Manila, the Philippines between March 15 and 19, 2010 as part of the CIF subcommittee stakeholders’ conference. The venue was held in the Asian Development Bank conference center. Over the meeting, several milestones were achieved including the finalization of the SREP design document, the financing modalities and road map for country pilot selection.

Ato Ambachew F. Admassie, SREP observer for the private sector, actively participated in the meeting. He also served as a panelist on a two hour SREP way forward session.

April; 2010
The EPA has sent an expression of interest to the CIF, requesting for Ethiopia to be considered as a pilot country under the SREP.



June; 2010
The SREP subcommittee meeting has been conducted in Washington DC, USA between June 19 and 29, 2010 to review and approve the selection of Pilot countries and the SREP financing modality. The venue was held in the World Bank Bank conference center. Over the meeting, several milestones were achieved including the selection of five pilot countries and the finalization of the SREP financing modalities. Ethiopia has been selected as one of the five pilot countries.

Ato Ambachew F. Admassie, SREP observer for the private sector, actively participated in the meeting. He said, “It is a big opportunity to test run any resolve in renewable energy diversification, and certainly the private sector gets one more line to participate in”, and asked abut the sustainability, he said “ obviously sustainability demands inclusive role of all stakeholders including meaningful engagement of the private sector from the design to the effective implementation”. He also applauded EPA’s move saying “Naturally expression of interest by interested eligible country is a first but decisive step in being selected as a pilot country”.


The next CIF stakeholder and SREP subcommittee meeting of November 2010, in Washington DC is expected to endorse pilot projects/programs in Pilot countries.

August; 2010

The executive board of the CDM is expected to give a chance to take note and act on the second appeal by the Ethiopian DNA regarding the removal off applicability from an existing CDM methodology, known by ACM 00015. The EB 56th meeting to be held in Petropolis, Brazil between 13 and 17 September, 2010 held an agenda for the same in its last day session. It is to be recalled that a CDM project activity has been submitted with request for revision of the same methodology by Ethan Bio-Fuels Plc.
